History
The house at 844 Cortlandt Street sits within the Houston Heights, an early planned suburb founded in 1891 by O. M. Carter's Omaha and South Texas Land Company and served by an electric streetcar line linking it to downtown Houston. The Heights was its own incorporated city from 1896 until Houston absorbed it in 1918.
