History
The 1940 Air Terminal Museum is housed in the former Houston Municipal Airport Terminal, a streamline-moderne art-deco building designed by architect Joseph Finger (who also designed Houston City Hall) and built with Public Works Administration funds. Opened on September 28, 1940, it was Houston's first purpose-built passenger terminal and served the city's airlines until the mid-1950s. Threatened with demolition in 1978, the building was saved and is now on the National Register of Historic Places, operated by the Houston Aeronautical Heritage Society, formed in 1998.
