History
The Czech Center Museum Houston was founded in 1995 as the Czech Cultural & Community Center by Bill and Effie Rosene and others, originally operating out of the Northwest Mall. Construction of its current building at 4920 San Jacinto Street began in 2002, designed in the style of a 19th-century Czech villa with baroque ornamentation, stained glass, and Bohemian crystal chandeliers. The 20,000-square-foot museum holds more than 5,000 pieces reflecting Czech and Slovak art, culture, and history.
