History

The Michael E. DeBakey Library and Museum opened at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston on May 14, 2010, chronicling the life of the pioneering heart surgeon and the history of the college. It was the culmination of more than 25 years of planning that began in 1983, when DeBakey first discussed keeping his papers and memorabilia at Baylor. Exhibits include a recreation of his operating room and a replica of the sewing machine he used to make the first Dacron arterial graft; admission is free.
