History
The Hochwald House at 211 West Grand Avenue in Marshall was built in 1894-95 for Isaac Hochwald, a prominent Jewish merchant who helped establish Harrison County's Moses Montefiore Synagogue. The 2.5-story Neoclassical residence combines Mission-style stucco and a red tile roof with Stick-style decorative gable trusses, and is noted for an automobile turntable said to be the only one of its kind in Texas. It became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1978 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
