History

Rule Cemetery lies west of Haskell and serves the town of Rule in western Haskell County. The community was laid out in anticipation of the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway and named for railroad official William A. Rule, Sr.; its post office opened in May 1903 and the first train arrived in 1905. Townsite donor J. L. Jones and partner A. C. Foster built the early hotel, gins, and bank, and Rule incorporated on August 31, 1909 — the railroad-era families of that town rest in this cemetery.
