History

This gravesite marks the burial of a young daughter of Charles L. and Sarah Jane McGehee near the restored historic McGehee Cabin on the old McGehee Crossing of the San Marcos River. The McGehee family were among the earliest settlers of the area; Thomas G. McGehee, generally counted the first Anglo-American settler in Hays County, received a league of land from the Mexican government in 1835. The child's stone was found in a plowed field and reset near the cabin so it could be cared for.
