History
Casa de Palmas at 101 North Main Street in McAllen was built in 1918 by the Rio Grande Hotel Corporation, designed by San Antonio architect M.L. Waller in the Spanish Mission Revival style with a central patio, red tile roof, and twin towers. One of the finest hotels in South Texas, it sheltered residents during the 1919 hurricane and was rebuilt after a 1973 fire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
