History

This site preserves the grave of Ester G. Cantu on the former Santa Timotea (Los Novillos) Ranch, once part of the Sam Lane Ranch in northwestern Hidalgo County. Ester was the adopted daughter of Martiniano Cantu and Timotea Cavazos, who married in 1911; she died young of scarlet fever. Her marker stands just outside the southeast corner of the old ranch headquarters yard.
