History

Anton Cemetery serves the town of Anton in eastern Hockley County, a Santa Fe Railway townsite named for railroad executive J. F. Anton. The town was launched with a "Grand Opening Jubilee" on December 3, 1924, when the Anton Townsite Company sold more than two hundred lots in a single day despite a sandstorm. The cemetery, holding roughly fifteen hundred graves, dates from the community's earliest years.
