History

Martin Springs Cemetery grew out of the Martin Springs community in central Hopkins County, about four miles south of Sulphur Springs. The area was settled in 1873 by Mrs. A. M. Ardis, who sold her home in 1877 to Crofford Martin, for whom the community was named. In 1881 a group of local families organized worship services in a clearing among the loblolly pines and established the cemetery at the same time, naming it for the family of the first person buried there.
