History

Union Cemetery occupies a hilltop about six miles southeast of Sulphur Springs, next to the Union Baptist Church off County Road 1444. Its earliest inscribed grave dates to 1861 and the oldest fully marked grave to 1875, and tradition holds that burials began as early as 1850. A Texas historical marker was placed at the front gate in 1985, and the cemetery holds more than 400 known graves.
