History

This grave marker honors Franklin "Peter" Fleeks, the son of former slaves Jack and Vinnie Fleeks, who became a college-educated teacher in Houston County and taught in its schools for 52 years. He guided his own children and many pupils toward higher education and positions of leadership. The marker stands on the Fleeks family farm, recognized in the Texas Family Land Heritage Program for more than a century of continuous family operation.
