History

New Salem Cemetery lies northwest of Latexo in Houston County, on land in the F. McNeil Survey. Dr. John B. Smith sold the tract to trustees for the New Salem community on February 9, 1901, for the sum of seventeen dollars. The 3.4-acre burial ground is fenced and well maintained on a tree-shaded site now landlocked within a private ranch.
