History
Dedicated in 1977 and housed in a 1927 building, the Hutchinson County Historical Museum traces the Texas Panhandle from prehistoric times through the oil boom. Exhibits cover the Permian-era fossil record, the Panhandle Pueblo Culture of the first millennium A.D., and the oil strike that swelled Borger's population from about 15 to 35,000 in three months. It also interprets figures such as Billy Dixon, Quanah Parker, and the Texas Rangers who cleaned up the boomtown.
