History

Jack County's first bank building was constructed in Jacksboro in 1897 of native stone quarried at Lost Creek, on land once owned by former Fort Richardson soldier and author H. H. McConnell. The local Risley Brothers firm built the structure for the First National Bank, which had opened in 1890 inside the county courthouse under its first president, Judge T. D. Sporer. J. W. Knox served as its longest-tenured president, from 1893 to 1932. The State Historical Survey Committee placed the marker in 1969.
