History
This Victorian residence at 206 South Main in Jasper was built in 1888 by John T. Beaty, an attorney who served as Jasper County sheriff and, from 1901 to 1906, as a Texas state senator from the 14th District. Beaty's daughter, Marguerite Beaty Orton, lived in the house until 1971. The city later acquired and restored the property, which was listed on the National Register in 1975 and is also a State Antiquities Landmark.
