History
The Jasper County Historical Museum occupies the former Hancock Drug Store on the courthouse square in Jasper, one of Texas's 23 original counties. Its exhibits cover the county's settling and naming (for Revolutionary War hero William Jasper), early leaders in the Republic of Texas, post-Civil War freedom colonies, and the East Texas timber industry. More recent displays address the photography of Alonzo Jordan, the law practice of Joe Tonahill, and the story of James Byrd Jr.
