The Babe Didrikson Zaharias Museum in Beaumont is dedicated to Mildred 'Babe' Didrikson Zaharias (1911-1956), voted by the Associated Press the greatest woman athlete of the first half of the 20th century. It opened on November 27, 1976, after local businesspeople and public figures raised $100,000 for its construction. The museum displays her trophies, awards, memorabilia, and photographs from a career that included two golds and a silver at the 1932 Olympics and 41 LPGA titles, and it also serves as a Beaumont visitor center.
