History
The Texas Energy Museum in downtown Beaumont opened on January 10, 1990, the anniversary of the 1901 Spindletop gusher. It was created in 1987 by a coalition of residents, foundations, oil companies, Lamar University, and the City of Beaumont, combining the former Western Company of North America Museum of Fort Worth with Lamar University's Spindletop Museum. Its exhibits cover petroleum geology, oil production, and refining, and include a complete Spindletop-era rotary drilling rig and animatronic characters recounting early Texas oil history.
