History

The Fire Museum of Texas occupies Beaumont's former Central Fire Station, a 1927 building that is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The museum opened in 1984 and was designated the official state fire museum in 1986, with a collection of antique fire apparatus dating back to 1856 and exhibits tracing firefighting from bucket brigades to modern practice. Standing in front of the building is 'the world's largest working fire hydrant,' a 24-foot hydrant originally commissioned by The Walt Disney Company to promote its film 101 Dalmatians.
