History

The South Texas Museum in Alice is housed in the 1940s office building of prominent ranching brothers Claude and Frank McGill. It focuses on the history and traditions of South Texas, displaying artifacts such as a San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad lantern and a rare horse collar woven from corn shucks. Alice, seat of Jim Wells County, grew into a major cattle-shipping and oil-boom town nicknamed the "Hub City of South Texas."
