Constructed of brick and terracotta in the Renaissance Revival style with Prairie style elements. The building features two-story flat brick pilasters capped with Corinthian capitals, a dentiled sheet metal cornice, a hipped clay tile roof, a central octagonal domed cupola and a single-story entry portico with ornamental corbels and a small pediment supported by short octagonal columns.

The Jim Wells County Courthouse in Alice was built in 1912, its cornerstone laid on July 25 before a crowd of more than 2,000 people. San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres designed the building, funded by a January 1912 bond election held soon after the county's creation. East and west additions designed by architect Addis E. Noonan were completed in 1949.
