History

First Baptist Church of Stamford was organized on February 22, 1900, soon after the town itself was founded, meeting first in a shed and then on the town square. During the pastorate of the Rev. Frank S. Groner the congregation built its distinctive Classical Revival sanctuary in 1908-09, a domed, buff-brick structure on a Greek cross plan with art-glass windows. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1989.
