Terrell sold seven acres for a cemetery in 1878; the first interments were Peter Meinenger and Dr. G. W. Ridgell. The Oakland Cemetery Association formed in 1925 to provide perpetual care, and the name Oakland Memorial Park was adopted in 1931. Those buried here include the artist Frank Reaugh and twenty British Royal Air Force cadets who died while training at Terrell's British Flying Training School during World War II.
