History

Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery lies on the grounds of the historic King Ranch near Kingsville and takes its name from the Santa Gertrudis land grant. That land was part of the Rincon de Santa Gertrudis grant purchased in 1853 by Captain Richard King, founder of the King Ranch, whose ranch later gave its name to the Santa Gertrudis breed of cattle developed there. The small cemetery holds burials connected to the ranching families of the Kingsville area.
