History

Sponsored by the La Salle County Historical Commission, the Brush Country Museum occupies a small white house and an adjacent one-room schoolhouse in Cotulla. The schoolhouse was donated by the Cotulla school district, and in 1997 Gladys 'Beanie' McMahon Porter gave her house and lots for the museum. Displays recall early-20th-century ranch life and local education, including the Welhausen School where Lyndon B. Johnson first taught and served as principal in 1928.
