History
Joseph Cotulla, founder of the town, donated the land for Cotulla Cemetery, whose earliest marked grave dates to 1882; many 1886 burials reflect a smallpox epidemic that struck La Salle County that year. Originally divided into Mexican and Anglo-American sections and expanded by six acres in 1941, it is the county's chief burial ground and has been maintained by the Cotulla Cemetery Association since 1915. Founder Joseph Cotulla and early educator Rev. V.E. Covey are among those buried here; the Texas Historical Commission marked it in 1981.
