History

This burial ground is located at Milton, a community on Farm Road 1501 about sixteen miles southeast of Paris in southeastern Lamar County. Settled around the time of the Civil War and originally called Minton, Milton had a post office by 1874 and grew to some 300 residents by the early 1930s. After its businesses and school closed following World War II, only a church, a cemetery and a few scattered houses remained by the early 1970s.
