History

Minter Cemetery serves the community of Minter in southeastern Lamar County, near Deport, a settlement founded in 1882 and named for Minter Parker. Originally known as Parker's Voting Box, the town grew to include a cotton gin, a church, a school and stores. By the 1960s Minter had dwindled to a cemetery, a church and scattered dwellings, and the graveyard preserves several hundred burials from the community's history.
