History

The present Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in Shiner, a town founded by German and Czech Catholics, is a Romanesque Revival brick structure built in 1920-21 to replace an 1891 church that had outgrown its congregation. It was designed by F. Wahrenburger and built by B. Falbo and M. Deodati, with stained glass imported from Munich. The interior was painted by Berlin-trained artist Edmond Fatjo, including a focal mural of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. One of the Painted Churches of Texas, it has been on the National Register since 1983.
