History

This marker at Moulton identifies where part of the Texas Army, retreating under General Sam Houston from Gonzales toward the Brazos, camped on the East Fork of the Lavaca River on March 15, 1836. It was one of a series of campsites on the road that led to the decisive victory at San Jacinto. The State of Texas erected the marker in 1936, near the present American Legion hall.
