History

Baursville Cemetery lies off County Road 261 at the site of Baursville, now a ghost town in Lavaca County that was settled by German immigrant farmers. The well-kept grounds hold more than one hundred markers, and their inscriptions record birthplaces across Europe, including one from Moscow, Russia, alongside a roll of German family names. Its oldest marker is that of Anna H. Fehrenkamp, who died July 28, 1881.
