History

Burkett Cemetery lies hidden in the woods in the far northwestern corner of Lavaca County, about half a mile from the Fayette County line and out of sight from the road. Long forgotten and largely unfenced, it holds nine markers, the oldest for J. M. Burkett, who died August 14, 1868. The last recorded burial took place in 1918.
