History

This is the Black cemetery serving the town of Oakwood in northeastern Leon County, which was established in 1872 as a station on the International-Great Northern Railroad and became a leading cotton-shipping center. Adjoining the town's White cemetery, it reflects the segregated burial practices common in Texas during that era.
