History
Benjamin Watson Hardin (1796-1850) came to the Liberty area of Texas in 1827, received a league of land in 1831, and served as sheriff of the Liberty District. A prominent rancher and a founder of the Liberty Masonic Lodge, he was buried in the family cemetery on his land grant, where the Texas Centennial Commission placed a monument in 1936; Hardin County bears the family name.
