History
Benjamin Franklin Hardin came to Texas in 1826 and, during the Texas Revolution, served as a lieutenant at the siege of Bexar and carried the San Jacinto victory dispatch toward the U.S. border for Sam Houston. He was Liberty County surveyor from 1838 to 1845 and later a colonel in the Texas militia, and in 1857 he was serving in the legislature when Hardin County was created from Liberty County and named for his family. State markers were placed at the Hardin family cemetery in 1936 and at his Liberty home site, Seven Pines, in 1988.
