History

Simmons Cemetery serves the former ranching community of Simmons, southeast of Three Rivers, which was laid out in 1906–07 when a ranch was divided into tracts and sold to buyers from Texas, Oklahoma, and dozens of other states. A post office opened in 1907 and a church and school were built in 1908; at its peak the town had a hotel, grocery, and drugstore. The community declined after the 1930s and its post office closed in 1945, but the cemetery remained in use into the 1990s.
