History

Grassland Cemetery lies about three miles south of U.S. 380 on State Highway 212, just below the crossroads community of Grassland in southeastern Lynn County. Lynn County was open ranching country with almost no settlers until farmers arrived after 1900—its population jumped from a handful of residents in 1900 to more than 1,700 by 1910—and the Grassland community and its burial ground date from that farming influx. The well-kept cemetery still shows older folk traditions such as scraped-ground plots, and its unmarked graves were later given small concrete crosses.
