History

The Old U.S. Post Office and Courts Building at 223 West Austin Street in Jefferson is a Romanesque Revival brick structure built between 1888 and 1890, originally housing a U.S. post office on the first floor and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas above. It was listed on the National Register in 1969 and has served as the Jefferson Historical Society Museum since 1965.
