History

The Beard House at 212 Vale Street in Jefferson was built in 1860 as a cottage-type dwelling, with a detached kitchen in the Old South tradition and a design attributed to architect Arthur Gillman. Anna Beard bought the house in 1878 and lived there until 1895, giving it the name it has carried since. Restored in the 1950s, it is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
