History
Daniel Hoerster was a cattle brand inspector and a leading figure in the Mason County War, also known as the Hoo Doo War, a violent 1870s feud over cattle stealing. Aligned with Sheriff John Clark, Hoerster was ambushed and killed at Mason in 1875. A marker was placed on the Hoerster lands near Art in 1967.
