History
Seth Ingram (1790-1857), a Vermont-born surveyor and War of 1812 veteran, came to Texas in 1822 and was engaged by Stephen F. Austin to survey his colony, platting San Felipe de Austin in 1823-24. As one of Austin's Old Three Hundred colonists he received land grants, including a league near Matagorda Bay in what became southwestern Matagorda County. He moved to Matagorda by 1834, served on the Committee of Safety in 1835, and is honored on the county's 1936 marker.
