History
The Mayborn Museum Complex, a 142,000-square-foot natural-science and cultural-history museum at Baylor University, opened in May 2004. It descends from teaching collections Baylor professors began gathering in the 1850s; renamed the Strecker Museum in 1940 for longtime curator John K. Strecker, it was the oldest continuously operating museum in Texas until it closed to relocate. The complex includes natural-history exhibits, the hands-on Jeanes Discovery Center, and the 13-acre Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village.
