History

Smyrna Cemetery is what remains of Smyrna, a community about four miles east of Milano that took its name from the biblical city. Smyrna supported three one-teacher schools serving sixty-three students in 1903, but the settlement had faded from county maps by the 1940s. The roughly 154-grave cemetery is still cared for by the Smyrna Cemetery Association, which holds an annual cleanup each June.
