History

The Moore Family Cemetery is a small family burial ground near San Gabriel, a western Milam County community that began in 1843-44 when Jesse and Peter Mercer built cabins on the San Gabriel River, close to the sites of abandoned 1730s-1740s Spanish missions. San Gabriel had a post office by 1850 and grew to a few hundred residents before declining in the twentieth century.
