History
The Buffalo-Ebony (Ebony) Cemetery serves the Ebony community, originally called Buffalo, which was organized in Mills County about 1879. By tradition the burial ground began with two sheep herders who died while camped nearby, and its oldest marked grave, that of William R. Yankee, dates to 1882. Frank and Mary Crowder bought the land in 1889, and Mary later donated the site as a community cemetery; during the 1940s three Reynolds family graves were reinterred here after their original resting place was absorbed into Camp Bowie. A Texas Historical Commission marker was placed in 1992.
