History

Regency Cemetery lies near the site of Regency, a frontier community established about 1854 on the Mills-San Saba county line along the Colorado River. The settlement grew through ranching and farming, peaking near 200 residents in the 1890s before the repeated loss of its river bridges to floods in 1924 and 1936 sent it into decline, leaving today's famous 'Swinging Bridge' as its best-known landmark. The cemetery is among the few remaining reminders of the now-vanished community.
