History

New Harp Cemetery serves the New Harp community in southern Montague County, between Alvord and Forestburg near the county line. An old white frame church building—now used as the New Harp Community Center—stands near the grounds, reflecting the cemetery's origins as a rural church-and-community burial ground. A survey by Thelma Rickard in 1988 recorded the several hundred graves of local farming families interred here.
