History

This cemetery serves the Queen's Peak community in western Montague County, about four miles north of Bowie beneath the 1,189-foot summit of the same name. Originally called Victoria Peak, the settlement dates to 1858, when early families such as that of 'Uncle Johnnie' Roe moved in. The nearby peak was used during the nineteenth century as a lookout point to watch for Indian movements across the North Texas frontier.
